Using Social Media for B2B Marketing

Often times, companies within the business to business (B2B) realm are at a loss when it comes to social media marketing. If you are a B2B company and are trying to utilize social media networks, such as Facebook, for marketing purposes, you should start by:

  • Understanding your audience: Knowing what is important to your audience on the platform is important. For example, you may update your Facebook fan page with information about your company’s cookoff to help humanize the company. This may not be the same sort of update you would include on LinkedIn. Using Facebook Insights and Google Analytics, as well as your own databases, can help you get a better understanding of who is attracted to each of your social media platforms.
  • Create Quality Content: Once you understand your target audience, you can develop a content strategy offering quality content to your followers. Avoid the hard sell - instead, tailor your tone and the type of content you post to fit your audience. People are more likely to share your content if they perceive it as valuable, broadening your reach.
  • Pick when you publish: Not only is what type of content you post important, but when you post it as well. Consider when you receive the most engagement on your posts, and try to provide new content at that time.
  • Target Your Advertising: Many social media platforms offer paid advertisements. For example, Facebook allows you to either promote your entire page or a specific post on your page. You can target a certain age range, a certain location, and interests to ensure your advertisements are making it to the correct audience.
